Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Affirms individual patients’ Occupational Therapy needs and establishes and implements an occupation-based treatment program and goals.
- Utilizes information from patients’ records to identify impairments, functional limitations, disabilities, and level of performance.
- Administers evidence-based exams and screenings to determine patients’ performance capacities and deficits.
- Analyzes evaluation results to determine a plan of care, including appropriate interventions, goals, expected intensity, duration of therapy, and recommendations for discharge.
- Provides education to patients and caregivers regarding purpose of activity, use of equipment, home exercise and activity.
- Performs regular re-examinations, measures outcomes, and seeks feedback from patient, caregiver, and interdisciplinary medical team.
- Develops and modifies treatment programs to meet the changing needs of the patient.
- Oversees the clinical work of the Occupational Therapy Assistant and Rehabilitation Aide.
- Manages multiple patients at the same time.
- Provides services and required documentation in an accurate and timely manner and in accordance with professional and regulatory standards.
- Participates in outside continuing education and incorporates information into practice.
- Assists with educating and orienting new staff, acts as fieldwork educator for students and interns, and participates as instructor in an established class or program.
- Participates in educational events within the clinic and community.
- Attends specific clinical education coursework which meet the guidelines of California Board of Occupational Therapy and provides in-services to staff.
- Performs clinical consultations with staff.
- Provides input on equipment and supplies.
- Participates in planning and executes on marketing plans.
- Assists with developing and implementing a program, policies and dashboard measures for Rehabilitation Services.
Qualifications
- Three years’ experience as an Occupational Therapist in an acute healthcare system environment.
- One year of experience in a defined area of specialization.
- Experience with a range of diagnoses including general medicine, orthopedics, neurology, and cardiopulmonary.
- Twelve hours annually of continuing education in the area of clinical specialization.
- Completes mandatory stroke specific education requirements for certification.
- Previous experience with Microsoft Office and healthcare database systems preferred.
- Bilingual or multilingual preferred.
