Occupational Therapist Inpatient (2026-0795)

Location: Renton, WA – VMC Main Campus, Acute Care Occupational Therapy

About the role

The Occupational Therapist provides therapy that meets patient needs with a safe discharge or transition plan, including re-assessment and re-evaluation of functional abilities. This role involves assessing the impact of therapeutic modalities, maintaining excellent communication with patients, caregivers, and healthcare team members, and understanding VMC and department policies, as well as state and federal regulations for ethical service provision and billing. Responsibilities include program development, quality improvement, staff development, marketing, team leadership, delegation, student and volunteer supervision, and peer mentoring.

Schedule

Variable hours, Monday through Friday. Weekend and holiday rotation is expected as part of employment.

Pay

$41.47 - $68.43 per hour, depending on experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide evaluations, re-evaluations, and assessments of patient functional status, integrating information from the healthcare team to create individualized plans of care.
• Set specific, measurable goals to maximize function and independence in activities of daily living (ADL).
• Develop and document treatment plans, including patient response to care, progress toward goals, and discharge recommendations.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including nursing, to create occupation-based plans preventing complications from hospitalization or prolonged bed rest.
• Provide discharge planning recommendations, including rehabilitation needs, durable medical equipment, or home care services.
• Supervise and delegate tasks to Rehab Aide staff, students, and volunteers after completing orientation.
• Participate in program development, quality improvement initiatives, and strategic planning efforts.
• Provide in-services and educational activities following continuing education courses.
• Act as a resource for equipment, supplies, and treatment techniques, sharing knowledge with staff.
• Ensure accurate, timely documentation and billing in compliance with policies, protocols, and regulations.
• Participate in emergency management, including fulfilling assigned clinical or non-clinical roles during emergencies.
• Engage in community service and networking activities to promote Therapy Services.
• Adhere to Safe Patient Handling policies and procedures, recognizing personal limitations in load handling.

Requirements

• Current Washington State Occupational Therapist Interim or Active License.
• Current BLS certification within 90 days of hire.
• Evidence of current NBCOT registration or fulfillment within the first 12 months of hire.
• Effective interpersonal skills and professional appearance.
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, work accurately and independently, and communicate effectively with diverse patient populations.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs. and perform physical tasks such as standing, sitting, crouching, bending, and walking for extensive periods.
• Hand dexterity for manual treatment techniques and equipment operation.

Qualifications

For the Clinical Resource role, the following additional qualifications apply:

• At least 3 years of clinical experience.
