PRIMARY FUNCTIONS
- Identifies possible ineffective drug therapy or adverse reactions, significant side effects, drug allergies, and contra-indicated medication and reports to supervisor
- Advises and consults with family to potential for achievement of optimum potential of client
- Observes and records activities and findings in the clinical record and reporting to the physician the client's reaction to treatment and any changes in the client's condition
- Communicates effectively with all those providing care
- Guides and instructs the client in prescribed therapeutic self-care and creative activities that are directed toward improving independence and physical and mental functioning
- Instructs client in care and use of wheelchairs, braces, splints, and prosthetic and orthotic devices
- Aids in teaching exercise programs to patient and family
QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE)
- Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Communicate effectively in English (the primary language of the residents)
- Work well in a team or alone
- Organized and flexible
- Computer proficient
- Must have at least 2 years’ Occupational Therapy Assistant experience
REASONING ABILITY
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
