Occupational Therapist
About the role
Evaluates and treats patients who have difficulty performing daily tasks due to physical, emotional, cognitive, and/or psychosocial conditions.
Core duties and responsibilities
- Provides coordinated and comprehensive patient care including assessment, expected outcomes, rehabilitation interventions and evaluation within an interdisciplinary team approach.
- Evaluates patient needs and develops and implements the treatment programs for assigned patients to identify, prevent, and to minimize physical disabilities and/or pain of patient.
- Determines/revises priorities for direct/indirect patient care activities based on patient need and available resources; collaborates with nursing to update appropriate algorithms for safe patient handling.
- Documents all treatments, according to department policies and procedures, as monitored by supervision, by documentation review and consultation with referring Provider.
- SUBMIT ACCURATE CHARGES FOR SERVICES RENDERED FOR PATIENTS, ACCORDING TO DEPARTMENTAL POLICIES AND PROCEDURES UTILIZING THE BILLING SYSTEM VIA THE PATIENT’S EMR.
- CARRIES OUT OVERSIGHT RESPONSIBILITIES TO ENSURE SUPERVISION OF COTAS, STUDENTS AND VOLUNTEERS.
- PARTICIPATES IN EDUCATION AND TRAINING OF STAFF, STUDENTS, PATIENTS, AND FAMILY MEMBERS TO ASSURE THE APPROPRIATE DELIVERY OF CARE AND TO ACHIEVE THE MISSION OF WVU MEDICINE.
Physical requirements
- Heavy/Hard work: Work requires strength and/or stamina, lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, and carrying of materials and equipment weighing 40+lbs.

Skills and abilities
- Ability to organize and prioritize time and tasks to achieve a well-coordinated work effort and to effectively meet work schedules including an ability to integrate multiple factors which may have an impact on patient care.
Professional certification
Level 1 No experience required. Level 2 Meets requirements for previous level. Two years of experience. Level 3 Meets requirements for previous levels. Four years of experience. Twenty Level 3 Proficiencies (if you do not have a certification). Ten Level 3 Proficiencies required annually (if you have a certification). Five Level 3 Proficiencies required annually. Level 4 Meets requirements for previous levels. Eight years of experience. Ten Level 4 Proficiencies. Five Level 4 Proficiencies required annually. Professional Certification. Level 5 Meets requirements for previous levels. Ten years of experience. Ten Level 5 Proficiencies. Five Level 5 Proficiencies required annually. Professional Certification.
