Occupational Therapist Acute Care

HealthWorks Rehabilitation and Fitness in Morgantown, WV, has been Mon Health's inpatient rehabilitation provider for more than 25 years. This 188-bed inpatient hospital is seeking local PRN or per diem occupational therapists (OT) for as-needed coverage to build a local per diem pool.

About the Role

Evaluates all assigned patients and develops, implements, and modifies treatment plans in accordance with the patient’s needs and physician direction. Responsible for the delegation and direction of all discipline-specific therapy services for those assigned patients. Ensures the design of functional treatment programs allowing for an effective return to community activities. Serves as an educator of patients, families, students, co-workers, and self.

Responsibilities

• Understand and adhere to the appropriate state Practice Act governing Occupational Therapists.
• Develop objective patient goals and establish treatment type, frequency, and duration in collaboration with the referring physician.
• Supervise and delegate occupational therapy care for each patient within state and federal guidelines.
• Modify patient programs as changes in patient status occur.
• Complete patient care responsibilities and documentation in a timely manner.
• Participate in student clinical affiliation programs.
• Provide comprehensive and individualized treatment programs.
• Participate in the design and implementation of new programs or procedures with manager and physician approval.
• Communicate pertinent patient information to physicians, staff, employers, insurance carriers, and rehabilitation specialists.
• Develop and expand relationships with referral sources.
• Stay current with Occupational Therapy research and employ Evidence-Based Practice.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited school for Occupational Therapy.
• National registration and state licensure or registration required.
• Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
• Valid state driver’s license.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift patients using appropriate biomechanical techniques frequently; must be capable of easily lifting fifty (50) pounds dead weight alone.
• Ability to walk, bend, stand, and reach constantly during a work shift.
• Visual acuity (near and distant) sufficient to evaluate, diagnose, and monitor patient needs.
• Ability to speak and hear sufficiently to understand and give directions.
• Ability to push wheeled equipment through the facility.
• Fine motor skills for legible and accurate reporting, charting, and correspondence.
• Grasp ability for effective handling of diagnostic or therapeutic equipment.
