Occupational Health & Safety Specialist (Austin)

TK Elevator is seeking an experienced Occupational Health & Safety Specialist in Austin, TX to support job sites across the Austin, Dallas, and Houston region.

About the role

The Area Safety Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring the health and safety of TK Elevator employees, subcontractors, and customers. This position promotes a proactive safety culture and ensures compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements through jobsite evaluations, safety training, and incident investigations. This is a safety-sensitive position requiring up to 60% overnight travel, primarily within driving distance.

Responsibilities

• Conduct regular field inspections and audits of active job sites to assess safety compliance.
• Identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions.
• Collaborate with field supervisors and technicians to implement safety improvements.
• Verify that all team members can accurately articulate and demonstrate the FPPE process during site visits.
• Conduct behavior-based safety observations to assess real-time compliance and engagement with safety protocols.
• Coordinate with other regional safety specialists to share findings, trends, and best practices across branches.
• Provide on-the-spot coaching to field personnel during site visits to reinforce safety behaviors and correct deficiencies.
• Track FPPE compliance metrics and report trends to regional leadership for continuous improvement.
• Utilize mobile tools or apps to document field observations, FPPE compliance, and corrective actions in real time.
• Deliver safety training programs including new hire orientation, toolbox talks, and specialized safety topics.
• Ensure training records are maintained and up to date.
• Support the development of safety materials and resources tailored to elevator industry risks.
• Lead investigations of accidents, near misses, and safety concerns.
• Document findings, root causes, and corrective actions.
• Communicate lessons learned and support continuous improvement initiatives.
• Ensure adherence to OSHA, state, and local safety regulations.
• Maintain accurate records of inspections, training, and incidents.
• Prepare reports and metrics for regional and corporate HSE leadership.
• Serve as a safety resource for field personnel and management.
• Participate in safety committee meetings and regional safety initiatives.
• Support emergency response planning and drills.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, environmental health, or related field (preferred).
• Minimum 2 years of experience in construction or industrial safety, preferably in the elevator or vertical transportation industry.
• OSHA 30 certification required; CSP, CHST, or similar credential a plus.
• Strong knowledge of OSHA standards and safety best practices.
• Excellent communication, training, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to travel regularly within the Austin, Dallas, and Houston region and occasionally to surrounding states (TN / GA / AL / SC).
