About the role
The Obstetrics Technician position at West Chester Hospital provides support in the obstetrical setting under the direction of a registered nurse. Responsibilities include assisting with routine clinical tasks, observing and reporting changes in patient condition, and meeting the physical, psychosocial, cultural, and age-specific needs of patients and their families.
Responsibilities
- Engages in population-appropriate communication.
- Performs aspects of clinical care as assigned or delegated by the RN.
- Makes observations as directed by RN and reports deviations to RN.
- Performs scrub duties for obstetrical surgical cases, demonstrating knowledge of care and use of all equipment, instruments, and supplies used for surgical procedures.
- Places legs in stirrups, scrubs perineum, and drapes patient during vaginal deliveries.
- Weighs patient: standing or bed weight.
- Performs bedside glucose finger sticks.
- Performs Quality Control (Q.C.) on lab instruments.
- Communicates with OB Manager on supply chain issues.
- Incorporates patient safety and comfort to transport patients to/from other areas as directed; provides backup transport services to any department and/or other unit and/or assists with discharging patients home.
- Familiarizes with OB supplies and ensures units have required stock to maintain patient safety.
- Aids in maintaining a clutter-free patient room and ensures necessary supplies and equipment are available and acceptable.
- Maintains required competencies and completes hospital-required training.
Requirements
No experience required. Operating Room experience preferred. BLS certification must be obtained within 60 days of hire. STNA certification is preferred.
