OB Technician -Labor and Delivery
About the Role
Provides assistance in patient care during labor, delivery, and recovery. Performs surgical scrub duties, maintains acceptable levels of supplies, and provides turnover of patient areas. Assists in the operating room with obstetrics-related surgery and with patient care before and after surgery. This position is represented by SEIU.
Location
Twin Cities Community Hospital, a 122-bed acute care facility located in Templeton, CA, among oak trees in northern San Luis Obispo County. The hospital has been serving the community since 1978, offering emergency medicine, orthopedics, obstetrics, digestive disorders, wound care, and various medical, surgical, and outpatient services.
Local amenities include weekly farmers markets, farm-to-fork dining, hiking and biking trails, and beaches at Cambria and Morro Bay just fifteen minutes away.
Schedule
Night shift: 3/12s (6:00 PM – 6:00 AM). Call required as needed.
Responsibilities
- Assists in preparation of patient rooms, including turning rooms over, stocking, assembling charts, and updating census logs.
- Opens sterile supplies and sets up for procedures utilizing aseptic technique, checking integrity of sterile packaging.
- Assists the surgical team during operative procedures, providing needed supplies and instruments in a timely manner.
- Participates in the timeout on each case.
- Assists nursing staff in deliveries as directed: preparation, positioning, transports, transfer, and discharge of patient.
- Collects urinalysis (UA) specimens.
- Takes and records maternal vital signs, weight, height, and intake & output (I&O) measurements.
- Performs personal care services and assists with activities of daily living for patients.
- Prepares, positions, transports, transfers, and discharges patients.
- Answers phones and responds to call lights.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Education/GED or equivalent (preferred).
- Associate's/Technical Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience (preferred).
- Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA): Required.
- Surgical Technician or Obstetrical Technician certification: Preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from approved vendor per AH policy: Required.
- 1 year of experience, preferably in OB.
- Cesarean section experience: Required.
- Vaginal delivery experience: Required.
- EPIC experience: Required.
- Surge Tech certification: Preferred.
Unit Details
- Hospital Total Bed Count: 122
- Unit Bed Count: 3 Triage, 10 Postpartum, 3 LDR
- Staffing on Unit: 6 RNs
- Schedule Requirements: Call or low census up to 4 times; weekend coverage every 2-3 weekends.
