Summary
Assist physicians in providing high-quality patient care, while also exhibiting strong customer service skills to our patients and the overall practice. Employees are expected to model the organization's values of Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence.
Responsibilities
- Assists with direct patient care procedures and related tasks such as lab tracking and data entry, document management, obtaining patient histories and vital signs, verifying medication lists, preparing charts, and pre-visit planning.
- Performs routine specialized procedures such as EKGs, rapid strep, urine dips, spirometry, and nebulizer treatments.
- Administers injections including vaccines and medications. Educates and advises patients on specified medical issues within established parameters.
- Schedules, coordinates, and tracks STAT patient referrals and pre-authorizations. Works quality reports to ensure gaps of care are closed and maintains consistent quality scores.
- Maintains stock levels for medicines and medical supplies as needed. Monitors and audits vaccine refrigeration temperature in line with Department of Health Regulations.
- Practices safety, environmental, and/or infection control methods. Complies with OSHA and DOH standards. Complies with federal and local confidentiality laws, including HIPAA, ensuring patient privacy.
- Adheres to Brown Health Medical Group Primary Care guidelines for protecting patients’ demographic, clinical, and financial information.
- Provides superior customer service and outstanding patient care. Attends meetings/workshops as they relate to current position and office workflows. Performs other miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- BASIC KNOWLEDGE:
- High School graduate or equivalency – able to read, write and speak English.
- Graduate of formal Medical Assistant training program (9 months or longer) or minimum of 3 years Medical Assistant experience in a comparable ambulatory setting required, within the last 5 years.
- Basic Life Support Certification.
- Ability to understand and apply policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Ability to use a personal computer and scanner.
- Ability to use EMR and other software applications.
- Ability to interact with patients, providers, supervisors, and peers in a professional manner.
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span, with consideration of aging processes, human development stages, and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.
- EXPERIENCE:
- Three years of experience within the last 5 years as Medical Assistant in an ambulatory setting or recent Graduate of formal Medical Assistant training program (9 months or longer) within the past 2 or 3 years.
- Prefer experience with electronic medical record and appointment scheduling software.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
- Healthcare environment such as acute care hospitals, physicians’ offices, and ancillary healthcare enterprises.
- Works with medical equipment and has direct patient contact.
- Any potential hazards are minimized by adherence to established safety procedures and precautions including use of safety equipment and protective clothing.
- Walks and stands intermittently throughout the day. May be exposed to electrical and energy hazards. May lift and position patients, and lift supplies up to 50 pounds.
