About the Role
Under the direction of Nursing and Medical Staff, you will provide a wide variety of duties related to patient care, clerical support, and surgical assistance for OB patients. You will work cooperatively with others as part of a team, performing clinical procedures and non-clinical support tasks essential to patient care and unit success.
Responsibilities
- Maintain professional accountability and technical support for OB patient care
- Assist in operational support tasks including maintenance of patient records, bed control and turnover, patient registration, charge capture, and ensuring adequate supplies
- Perform phlebotomy, transport of specimens, patient transport, and obtain blood glucose
- Enter Birth Certificate data
- Provide supportive care and assistance with ADLs to newborns, childbearing and postpartum patients, pediatric patients, and others as assigned
- Maintain calm and work efficiently through obstetrical emergencies as part of the team
- May be required to take call
- Perform duties consistent with Mercy’s mission, values, and Service Standards
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED (required)
- Completion of a Surgical Technologist Program per the National Board of Surgical Technology (required)
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification (required, must maintain without gaps)
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required)
- New graduate up to experienced surgical technologist experience
- Must understand written and spoken English
- Must be able to perform job-related functions safely and successfully, with or without reasonable accommodation
