About the role

The OB Certified Surgical Technologist/Technician – Labor and Delivery position at Elliot Hospital is dedicated to providing exceptional care to expectant mothers and their newborns. This role involves handling the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during surgical procedures, ensuring the sterile field is maintained, and anticipating the surgeon's needs.

Responsibilities

  • Preoperative Duties: Donning OR attire and PPE, gathering and checking supplies, performing surgical scrub, setting up sterile back table and Mayo stand, performing initial instrument, sharps, and sponge counts with the circulator, assisting with gowning and gloving, establishing the sterile field, participating in the time-out procedure, securing tubing, cords, and accessories.
  • Intraoperative Duties: Preparing and anticipating additional instrumentation and supplies, passing instruments and supplies to the surgeon, measuring and passing medications, hemostatic agents, and irrigation solutions, holding retractors or instruments, sponging or suctioning the operative site, applying electrocautery, cutting suture material, maintaining sterile technique, recognizing early warning signs, performing additional counts, preparing sterile dressings, preparing and passing specimens, cleaning and preparing instruments for terminal sterilization, assisting in terminal cleaning of the room, assisting in prepping the OR for the next patient, participating in debriefing and quality improvement practices.
  • Other Surgical Cases: Performing cystoscopy, assembling/disassembling scopes, white balancing cameras, connecting fluid tubing to scopes, emergency hysterectomy, postpartum hemorrhage management, dilation and curettage, dilation and evacuation, cerclage, vaginal laceration repairs, postpartum salpingectomies, and other surgical cases or equipment as needed.
  • Other Duties: Maintaining operating rooms in a safe and efficient manner, assisting in patient transfers, participating in admitting patients, maintaining and cleaning equipment, ensuring work area orderliness, setting up delivery tables, cleaning and removing instruments, assisting in breaking down delivery tables, maintaining established par levels of patient care supplies, and completing daily tasks.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an approved Surgical Technologist Program
  • National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting Certification (NBSTSA) or National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) certification
  • Associate’s degree preferred
  • Medical Technician License from the State of New Hampshire unless other current NH state license is held
  • BLS Certification
  • Knowledge of medical terminology

Pay

$35.00 - $40.00 per hour based on experience and qualifications.

Schedule

Day/Night Rotate - 7:00am - 7:30pm OR 7:00pm - 7:30am - 36hrs/wk
