Duties And Responsibilities
- Performs surgical scrub duties in all specialties: Patient positioning, draping; sterile instrument and supplies set-up; effectively working with surgeon; assisting RN with sponge, needle and instrument counts, and assists with cast/dressing applications.
- Maintains disposable supplies and orders supplies as needed.
- Demonstrates working knowledge of care and handling specimens, surgical instruments, supplies and equipment including flash sterilization.
- Affirms sterilization logs.
- Aids in preparing surgical procedures by anticipating needs of physician and patient.
- Prepares operating area safely and in an organized manner.
- Selects appropriate supplies and equipment in a cost-effective manner based on surgeons' preference cards.
- Carefully manages equipment to extend its useful life.
- Prioritizes and utilizes time efficiently.
- Delegates tasks effectively to ensure maximum productivity and functionality of the department.
- Creates and maintains sterile field.
- Provides a safe, therapeutic environment for patient and families.
- Uses patient restraints appropriately.
- Works efficiently with physicians and RNs in the variety of surgical procedures done in the OR, with specialized equipment, trays and instruments.
- Answers telephone in a prompt and courteous manner, addressing callers and patients appropriately by name and/or title.
- Performs efficiently in crisis and emergency situations, following established protocols, remaining calm and informing appropriate persons.
- Demonstrates knowledge of age-specific care, including but not limited to: identifying the need for additional safety measures, physiological normal values/readings, assessing skin integrity, behavior, motor skills and/or activities that place patients at risk as well as communicates effectively in a clear, concise and understandable manner applicable for the populations checked below: Infant ( ), Pediatric ( ), Adult ( ), Geriatric ( ).
- Demonstrates good use of personal protective equipment and universal precautions.
Minimum Education Required
Graduate of an Accredited Surgical Technology Program.
Preferred Education
Associate’s Degree - preferred.
Minimum Work Experience And Qualifications Required
- One year of clinical experience as a Surgical Technologist.
- Certified Surgical Technologist (preferred).
License, Certification, Registration Or Designation Required
- BLS Card
- Los Angeles County Fire Card
