About the role

Under the general supervision of the Lead Food Service Worker, the Substitute Food Service Worker prepares and serves food to students and staff, maintains a clean and sanitary work environment, and stocks inventory and supplies. Individual(s) assigned to this classification must report to work per their assigned schedule.

Florida law requires all school personnel to undergo a Level 2 background screening through the Florida Department of Education’s Background Screening Clearinghouse. Employment is contingent upon eligibility for clearance and successful completion of all required background screenings prior to hire.

Responsibilities

• Prepares, cooks, and serves food to students in accordance with menus and nutritional guidelines.
• Handles and stores food safely, including checking and maintaining proper temperatures in accordance with food safety regulations.
• Operates and maintains food warmers, serving stations, and other kitchen equipment, ensuring compliance with temperature and sanitation standards.
• Upholds the highest standards of safety, cleanliness, and sanitation in all aspects of food preparation and service.
• Monitors the condition of food service equipment and reports required maintenance or necessary repairs to supervisor.
• Sets up and cleans the cafeteria and serving areas before and after meal periods.
• Cleans and sanitizes dishes, appliances, and all areas within the food service area.
• Maintains inventory of food and supplies; assists in receiving, organizing, and storing deliveries and restocking inventory as needed.
• Communicates effectively with students, staff, and supervisors to ensure smooth daily operations and a positive dining experience.
• Attends vocational classes, seminars, and related in-service training opportunities as assigned.
• Performs other duties as required.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
• Food service experience preferred.
• Food Safety Certification.

• Knowledge of the methods, supplies, equipment, and operating procedures related to food service.
