About the role

The NWIC Researcher provides historical resources data to practicing public and private consultants as well as to local, state, and federal agency representatives by gathering, analyzing, and synthesizing historical resources data. The incumbent serves as a professional contact point for consultants and members of the general public regarding historical resources and environmental/historic preservation laws and the fields of archaeology, history, and architectural history; and, enters historical resource and report information into the NWIC database and geographic information system (GIS) as requested.

Responsibilities

  • Gather, analyze, and synthesize historical resources data
  • Provide historical resources data to consultants and agency representatives
  • Serve as a professional contact point for consultants and members of the general public
  • Enter historical resource and report information into the NWIC database and GIS

Requirements

  • Equivalent to a bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university, including or supplemented by a course in statistics
  • One year of experience in technical research or statistical work
  • Graduate study in the social sciences, economics, mathematics, statistics, public or business administration, or engineering fields
  • Experience conducting historical resources records searches
  • Intermediate proficiency with computers; Adobe programs, Google Suite and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel)
  • Knowledge of Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) (including proficiency with USGS topographic maps) software and systems and Peoplesoft

Qualifications

  • Two years of experience conducting historical resources records searches
  • One year of experience at one of the California Historical Resources Information Centers preferred
  • Completion of a graduate program in a related field is highly preferred

Skills

  • Intermediate proficiency with computers; Adobe programs, Google Suite and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel)
  • Knowledge of Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) (including proficiency with USGS topographic maps) software and systems and Peoplesoft

Pay

This is a full time, non-exempt position, which will lead toward permanent status following the successful completion of a probationary period. The CSU Classification Step Range for this position is $4,595 - $6,694 per month (step 1 - step 20). Step placement will be determined based on relevant qualifications and professional experience. Step placement upon appointment is not expected to exceed Step 1 ($4,595).
