Nutritionist/Certified Diabetes Educator

About the role

Located on the Upper East Side within the Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism unit, this position provides quality diabetes/nutrition care and education to patients and family members. It assesses the diabetic/nutritional status of patients and recommends appropriate diabetic/nutrition therapy based on individual needs.

Responsibilities

• Applies knowledge of diabetic/nutrition screening and assessment to specific patient populations to determine their diabetic/nutritional needs.
• Provides education in diabetes technology, including pumps, continuous glucose monitoring.
• Develops educational material on nutrition, diabetes, weight management, and other nutrition-related concerns.
• Actively participates in overall education and training activities, and disseminates information regarding current nutrition practices.
• Evaluates patients' nutritional status by reviewing pertinent information obtained from the patient, medical records, and the interdisciplinary health care team.
• Provides nutrition counseling to patients and family members as indicated.
• Uses professional judgment to adapt and apply guidelines, protocols and professional standards of care to the new and changing needs of the patient.
• Evaluates nutrition care plans for effectiveness and recommends changes as needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Bachelor's Degree required; Master's degree preferred. Approximately 3-5 years of related experience.

Skills

• Good interpersonal skills to develop working relationships with care center staff and other personnel.
• Good computer skills to develop group education materials.
• Ability to conduct workshops on nutrition-related topics.

Qualifications

• Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) – Specialty Credential
• Certified Dietitian Nutritionist (CDN) from NYS Office of the Professions
• Registered Dietitian (RD) with the Commission of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics

Pay

Salary range: $90,400.00 – $101,800.00

35.00 weekly hours (exempt status)
