About the Role
A rewarding career opportunity is available for a Dietary Aide to join the team at Medical Park West Rehabilitation and Skilled Care in Norman, OK. This role assists the food service team in creating a positive and healthy dining experience for residents, ensuring meals, snacks, and hospitality items are prepared and served on time, while maintaining cleanliness and service standards.
Responsibilities
- Safe Food Handling
- Follows guidelines for food handling and storage, including raw and prepared foods.
- Tests and records temperatures of hot and cold foods; monitors cold food storage areas.
- Reports and corrects negative temperature results to the Nutrition Services Manager.
- Properly discards expired or contaminated food items.
- Enforces hand washing, glove use, and hair restraints; complies with infection control and universal precaution policies.
- Food Preparation
- Follows methods to control cross-contamination.
- Prepares food using standardized recipes and production worksheets, adhering to special diet requirements.
- Uses tools (spreadsheets, prep-at-a-glance, production guides) to ensure timely and accurate meal production and portion control.
- Properly pulls, thaws, and preps foods in advance.
- Ensures food is served within meal serving hours while preserving quality, temperature, and appearance.
- General Food Service Duties
- Serves meals using correct portion control and plating guidelines.
- Performs daily and scheduled cleaning of the kitchen and equipment following sanitation procedures.
- Ensures work areas are cleaned and sanitized after each task.
- Sets up and cleans serving lines and dining rooms, including rolling flatware, setting tables, and maintaining condiments and centerpieces.
- Properly stores, chills, and reheats leftovers.
- Cleans and arranges food storage areas.
- Assists other department staff to ensure timely production, service, and clean-up.
- Completes kitchen close duties (PM shift) as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Food handlers’ card required.
- Previous experience preferred.
- Fundamental understanding of sanitation, cleanliness, and personal hygiene.
- Ability to communicate tactfully with co-workers, residents, family members, visitors, and government agencies.
- Regular, predictable, and dependable attendance.
