About the role
Positioned within Food Management and Dietary Services, this role focuses on maintaining high levels of guest satisfaction through timely patient food delivery. Duties span from collecting meal requests and setting up trays to delivering meals to patients.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and deliver patient trays, ensuring accurate food portions and presentation
- Communicate special diet information to production areas and check trays for accuracy
- Assist patients in selecting healthy, balanced menu options within dietary prescriptions
- Set up, break down, clean, and sanitize work areas; maintain temperature records
- Transport food service supplies and equipment, including pushing/pulling carts up to 250 lbs
- Process diet orders and menus via computer; maintain accurate records and written communications
- Provide floor stock to patient care units and act as a liaison between Food Management and Patient Care units
- Participate in department marketing promotions and assist with day-to-day operations, including relief coverage
- Train new team members and contribute to ongoing department education and in-services
- Communicate customer feedback to appropriate staff for follow-up and action
Requirements
- Current Washington State Food Handler’s permit
- High school diploma or GED certification preferred
- Effective English communication, both verbal and written
- Ability to work weekends, holidays, and independently
- Basic computer and keystroke abilities for data entry and online training
- Customer service experience preferred; Nutrition Representative or Diet Aide experience preferred
Qualifications
- Good interpersonal skills in diverse populations
- Ability to work effectively with patients across all age groups
- Experience providing excellent customer service
- Basic knowledge of computer systems for training and data processing
- Knowledge of modified hospital diets preferred
- Experience processing information via telephone and computer
Physical and Environmental Demands
- Ability to push, pull, and lift loads of 50 lbs or more (e.g., carts up to 250 lbs, CO2 canisters at 50 lbs, sanitation buckets at 20 lbs)
- Bending, lifting, and continuous standing required
- Frequent movement through departments and patient areas
- Use of cleaning/disinfectant solutions and chemicals
- Corrected vision and hearing within normal range
- Ability to handle multiple demands simultaneously and adapt to frequent interruptions
- Independent problem-solving and compilation of information
- Occasional desk work for up to 1.5-hour periods
