About the Role
The Nutrition Representative ensures high levels of guest satisfaction in patient food service by maintaining a strong sense of urgency in food delivery. This role involves all aspects of tray preparation, from collecting meal requests to delivering trays to patients.
Responsibilities
- Set up, break down, clean, and sanitize assigned work areas.
- Demonstrate courteous and cooperative behavior toward patients, visitors, co-workers, and staff.
- Portion food accurately and garnish according to department standards.
- Maintain a safe and sanitary work environment.
- Contribute to the department’s professional image through participation in marketing promotions.
- Cooperate in flexing hours during low census periods.
- Manage time and resources efficiently.
- Use proper storage techniques and maintain temperature records in assigned areas.
- Complete assigned tasks and communicate customer feedback for follow-up.
- Act as a liaison between Food Management and Nutrition Services (FMNS) and Patient Care units.
- Assist patients in making menu decisions aligned with dietary prescriptions.
- Arrange correct menus for meal preparation and verify tray accuracy.
- Communicate special diet information to production areas as needed.
- Maintain accurate records, including diet orders and menus, using computer systems.
- Deliver food to guests throughout the hospital and provide floor stock to Patient Care units.
- Participate in training new team members and ongoing department education.
- Use specialty equipment for product preparation.
- Assist in day-to-day operations, including relief coverage.
Requirements
- Current Washington State Food Handler’s permit.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Availability to work weekends and holidays.
- Ability to meet the organization’s professional appearance standards.
- Customer service experience preferred.
- Experience as a Nutrition Representative or Diet Aide preferred.
- Basic computer and keystroke abilities.
Qualifications
- Demonstrates good interpersonal skills in a diverse population.
- Ability to work independently and handle multiple demands simultaneously.
- Experience working with all age groups and their physical/emotional developments.
- Experience in providing excellent customer service.
- Basic computer knowledge for online training and data entry.
- Knowledge of modified hospital diets preferred.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Ability to push, pull, and lift loads of 50 pounds or more (e.g., carts up to 250 pounds, CO2 canisters, sanitation buckets).
- Frequent bending, lifting, and continuous standing/walking.
- Ability to move quickly through the department and facility.
- Exposure to cleaning/disinfectant solutions and chemicals.
- Corrected vision and hearing within normal range.
- Ability to handle interruptions and frequent changes in tasks.
- Independent problem-solving skills.
- Periods of sitting at a desk for up to 1.5 hours.
Pay
Salary Range: $26.66 – $42.48 per hour, depending on experience.
