About the role
The Nutrition Educator serves the Northeast Kingdom region, presenting nutrition and cooking classes to low-income pregnant women, families with children, and youth through the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP).
Responsibilities
- Present nutrition and cooking classes in a community location or in a home setting, both in-person and online.
- Teach classes as a series, covering topics such as shopping for healthy foods, meal planning, food preparation, food safety, and physical activity.
- Use provided class materials and lesson plans.
- Work with other federally funded programs, community grants, and fee-based contracts to deliver public education.
- Teach a variety of audiences throughout the county and other regions in the state.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree and two years of professional experience or an equivalent combination of experience.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with a wide variety of audiences.
- Excellent time management skills and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Basic computer skills, including MS Office, email, Zoom.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of and/or lived experience with shopping and cooking on a budget.
- Understanding of and/or lived experience with the challenges faced by low-income community members.
- Confidence in speaking in front of groups and engaging participants in class activities.
- Experience teaching, formally or informally.
Skills
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
- Proficiency in using technology tools such as MS Office and Zoom.

Pay
- Anticipated pay range: $25.00-$29.00/hour.
Schedule
- Flexible schedule with a 0.80 FTE position (30 hours/week).
Other Information
- Position is based in the St. Johnsbury Extension Office.
- Requires own transportation to and from work sites.
- Non-standard work hours required.
- Occasional evening and/or weekend work may be required (if non-exempt position, may result in overtime).
- Travel to and from worksites required.
- Background check required for this position.
