About the role

The Nutrients Field Rep ensures Iowa Select Farms is compliant with all regulations regarding the use, storage, and application of manure. This role works closely with compliance coordinators to collect and maintain accurate data, file management plans on time, and provide precise information to custom applicators for manure nutrient application.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the sampling and delivery of soils, manure, or any resource requiring analysis.
  • Professionally represent Iowa Select Farms as a liaison with landowners, tenants, custom applicators, and laboratories regarding crop and nutrient management.
  • Review all application events from site-specific application records, maintain records in required formats, and send field reports to tenants or landowners.
  • Maintain digital Manure Management Plans in an up-to-date status.
  • Develop rate and application information and guidelines for field staff, custom applicators, landowners, and/or tenants.
  • Become proficient with the Iowa P-index and RUSLE2 calculations.
  • Distribute informative maps with acreage, buffer strips, risk areas, field borders, etc., to custom applicators.
  • Maintain DNR and field application files according to regulatory requirements.
  • Stay current with Iowa State Extension, crop science, and nutrient uptake recommendations.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Iowa DNR CAFO rules affecting Iowa Select Farms practices.
  • Utilize GIS technology to manage field boundaries by site, maintain accurate application records, and soil sample information.
  • Act as a liaison with field personnel on pivot management and application events to maximize nutrient benefits for landowners or tenants and ensure lagoon capacity during dormant months.
  • Collaborate with other departments within Iowa Select Farms as needed.
  • Follow company vehicle guidelines and maintain a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Adhere to Iowa Select Farms biosecurity, animal wellbeing, and safety policies at all times.

Work Environment

This position is performed indoors and outdoors, with some tasks conducted in various weather conditions. The noise level can be loud, and the employee may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration. Standard office equipment such as computers and phones is used.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle objects or tools, reach with hands and arms, and climb over gates up to 48 inches in height.
  • Balance, stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, or crawl as needed.
  • Talk, hear, push, or pull objects.
  • Lift or move up to 10 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Sit for long periods and maintain focus on projects such as computer screens or detailed paperwork.
  • Drive a vehicle for prolonged periods.

Schedule

This is a full-time, on-site position requiring at least 40 hours per week. Flexibility in hours is required during application season, animal health challenges, or staffing issues. Occasional weekend work may be needed based on job demands.

Travel

Travel is expected to various Iowa Select Farms facilities, which may be local or out-of-area, with little to no overnight travel. A company-provided vehicle will be utilized.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, GIS, Biology, Agronomy, Management, Precision Agriculture, or a related field (or significant experience in manure application and agriculture management practices).
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish (written and verbal) is preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, email, data entry, and internal data management systems.
  • Ability to run reports, navigate company documents, and maintain accurate records.
