Nursing Supervisor
Full-time, benefits-eligible position with 36 hours per week, typically scheduled as three 12-hour shifts (7:30 am - 7:30 pm).
Pay
Pay range: $44.15 - $66.25 per hour.
Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited school of nursing; BSN, BS, or MSN required.
- Master’s degree in a related field preferred.
- Three years of acute care nursing experience (Emergency, Medical-Surgical, or Critical Care).
- Three years of supervisory or leadership experience.
- Current license as a Registered Nurse in the applicable state.
- Certification within one year of hire required.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification required.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) may be required within one year.
Responsibilities
- Ensures administrative continuity to staff, patients, and families while acting as a liaison for the hospital executive director on call and the patient care services management team.
- Monitors and responds to activities occurring within the entire hospital during assigned work hours.
- Collaborates with Nursing Management and Nursing Staffing Office to provide primary leadership in the appropriate placement of nursing staff for staffing decisions.
- Analyzes trends in resource utilization and recommends changes to Nursing Director and/or Nurse Manager.
- Provides consultation to ensure timely placement of patients in conjunction with Admitting Office, Bed Management, Clinics, and patient care areas.
- Coordinates and conducts Daily Debriefings, including weekends and holidays; initiates decisions to escalate capacity management plans as needed.
- Collaborates with physicians, nurses, and ancillary staff to resolve clinical and operational issues.
- Teams with Hospitalists in a co-management model to facilitate communication and throughput within the organization.
- Serves as a resource for policies, standards, and performance issues; provides disciplinary counsel as appropriate.
- Addresses patient care quality, compliance, and regulatory standards; initiates resolution actions and notifies Nurse Manager and/or Nursing Director for follow-up.
- Acts as on-site liaison for Hospital Administrator on-call; provides information to Communications, Marketing, and Media regarding patients or situations of interest.
- Communicates effectively and professionally, modeling behaviors aligned with Caring Science; resolves Service Excellence issues on-site.
- Ensures a biogenic environment supporting professional development of staff in accordance with Shared Governance and Caring Science principles.
- Develops and fosters relationships that enhance care delivery, patient satisfaction, and staff satisfaction through mutual respect.
- Ensures hospital disaster plans and policies are followed; coordinates activities as needed.
- Represents the Chief Nursing Officer/Directors of Nursing with on-site operational and clinical leadership after normal business hours.
- Works with physicians, hospital staff, and departments to prioritize admissions based on medical necessity and criteria.
- Communicates with all departments to maximize efficiency and expedite admission, transfer, and discharge processes.
- Provides crisis management, interprets policy, and makes timely decisions affecting patient care.
- Serves as the administrative liaison to patients, families, employees, and external customers.
