Join our dynamic team on a 39-bed Oncology unit focused on adult gynecology, oncology, colorectal, and plastic surgery patients. This hybrid role combines Nursing Assistant and Health Unit Coordinator duties, providing both direct patient care and administrative support in a fast-paced environment that includes surgical care, chemotherapy, and blood administration.

About the role

This .6 FTE position (48 hours per 2-week pay period) involves 8-hour shifts on day (7am–3:30pm) and evening (3pm–11:30pm) rotations, including every other weekend. You’ll work under the supervision of a professional nurse to deliver excellent customer service and teamwork while managing complex medication, infusion therapies, and patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care, including personal hygiene, vitals, daily activities, repositioning, transporting, and feeding.
  • Maintain unit desk functions: answering phones, processing admissions/discharges/transfers, transcribing orders, assembling charts, and ordering tests.
  • Set up and maintain patient rooms.
  • Order and stock supplies.

Requirements

Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification required (Ontrack participants must acquire it upon program completion).

  • Successful completion of Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program or another Fairview-sponsored Nursing Assistant program.
  • OR six months of recent direct care experience in long-term, home, or acute care (e.g., Nursing Assistant, PCA, Resident Assistant, Emergency Room Technician).
  • OR current enrollment in an LPN, RN, or Nurse Practitioner program with completion of one semester of clinical rotation.
  • OR current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry (not required to maintain after hire or for internal transfers).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a Health Unit Coordinator, Nursing Assistant, or related role.

Pay

Compensation follows the union agreement’s minimum and maximum pay rates for the role. Individual pay within this range may vary based on FTE, skills, education, and qualifying experience as outlined in the contract. Sign-on bonuses may apply if eligible at the time of offer.
