Nurse Technician - Oncology

About the role

Cleveland Clinic Akron General Hospital's 5400 Oncology Unit is a 27-bed acute care medical hematology and oncology unit specializing in the care of cancer patients, as well as hospice and palliative care. Caregivers receive specialized training in chemotherapy precautions and end-of-life care, with hands-on learning opportunities to develop chemotherapy competency while providing compassionate care to patients and families. As a Nurse Technician, you will assist with direct patient care activities under the supervision of an RN.

Responsibilities

• Provide or assist with patient care under the supervision of an RN
• Patient care may include vital signs, weight, assisting patients with personal care and activities of daily living, patient transfers/transport, pulse oximetry, point of care testing, dressing changes, applying external monitoring devices and removing urinary Foley catheters
• Report abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental, and emotional conditions to RN
• Assist with keeping patients' rooms clean and orderly
• Complete mandatory education and training to maintain organization and department-specific competencies and requirements

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

• Nursing student in good standing in an accredited nursing school program OR unlicensed graduate of an accredited nursing school program
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
• Maintain competencies specific to patient population served
• Satisfactorily complete hospital orientation

Preferred qualifications:

• Strong interpersonal skills to interact with patients and staff

Pay

Minimum hourly: $20.75 • Maximum hourly: $20.75

Schedule

Regular PRN position, with caregivers working days/evenings/nights/weekends between 12:00 a.m. – 12:00 a.m., with a minimum of 64 hours required during the summer months.
