Nursing Simulation Operations Technician
About the role
The University of West Georgia (UWG) seeks a skilled individual to support daily operations of the Nursing Lab & Simulation Suite (Carrollton or Newnan). This position involves coordinating with and assisting the ELC Assistant Dean, ELC Coordinators, Instructional Designer/Lead SimTech, and faculty to implement and deliver simulation and skill activities. The role requires expertise in technology and operations necessary for quality simulation, including scenario development and ensuring compatibility with technology and operational considerations. Equipment setup and breakdown include simulators, task trainers, hospital equipment, supplies, and audiovisual equipment. The position also involves leading daily restocking processes for supplies, running simulation software, programming scenarios, operating software during activities, maintaining and repairing equipment, providing on-site simulator and audio/visual support, managing inventory, and assisting with supervision of student lab assistants.
Responsibilities
- Coordinates with and assists the ELC Assistant Dean, ELC Coordinators, Instructional Designer/Lead SimTech, and faculty to provide for the implementation and delivery of simulation and skill activities. Must demonstrate expertise in the information technology, security, and operations needed to deliver quality simulation experiences; including the scenario development process and ensures that scenarios are compatible with the available technology and to account for operational considerations early in the planning phase. Equipment setup and breakdown includes setting up patient simulators (from low to high fidelity manikins, task trainers, hospital equipment (beds, pumps, Pyxis, defibrillators, etc.), supplies, and audiovisual equipment. Leads daily restocking process for all supplies.
- Expertise in running simulation software, ability to program specific scenarios, and operate software during simulation activities. Ability to create electronic medical records and simulated medication for skill and sim scenarios. Responsible for care, maintenance (including routine cleaning), repair and troubleshooting of all equipment used in the ELC. Provide on-site simulator maintenance and audio/visual support as needed. Inventory and asset management including notifying ELC Assistant Dean when supplies or other items need ordering or maintenance.
- Participate in simulation-based training, tours/demonstrations, and professional development activities. Attend educational opportunities to develop and maintain expertise in simulation technologies and the standards of best practice. Assists in maintaining databases to track skills and/or simulation scenarios, including usage, staffing, set up requirements, costs, script, moulage, objectives and other items as assigned. Assists with supervision of student lab assistants. Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Required Education: Associates Degree in a technology or health-related field.
- Required Qualifications: A minimum of one year of work-related experience.
- Preferred Qualifications: Preferred Educational Qualifications include a Bachelor's Degree in a related field. Previous experience in simulation lab; current BLS CPR certification with BLS CPR instructor; certification in Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist; familiarity with medical terminology are all preferred.
Proposed Salary
Salary is commensurate with experience.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge of standard audio-visual equipment, projectors, microphones, etc., Experience in Microsoft Office and PC platforms. Experience with providing technical support in networking, computer hardware or software. Organizational and time management skills to keep materials in order, track various projects, maintain files, and follow through assignments to completion. Ability to quickly learn new technology. Collaborate on decisions inside the institution including assisting with the purchase and maintenance of expensive lab equipment including high-fidelity patient simulators.
