Nursing Professional Practice & Governance Specialist

Scope of Position

The Ohio State University Medical Wexner Medical Center (OSUWMC) mission is focused on integrating quality patient care, education, and research. In conjunction with the Director of Enterprise Nursing Quality, Patient Safety, and Evidence-Based Practice (EBP), the Staff Associate role leads medical center-wide efforts across all inpatient and outpatient settings in establishing a culture of evidence-based professional nursing practice.

Position Summary

The Staff Associate oversees and provides direction for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of evidence-based nursing projects for the enterprise and leads and oversees the review and creation of all nursing policies and procedures for the Medical Center. In partnership with internal and external customers, the Staff Associate works with individuals in a way that ensures that evidence-based practice is understandable and measurable. He/she works to ensure a shared sense of purpose in creating both value for the customer and the committed involvement of nursing staff at all levels.

Staff Associate-Level Responsibilities

  • Maintain a professional presence throughout the enterprise
  • Oversee and maintain evidence-based standards of practice
  • Collaborate and integrate services within the department (nursing quality and nursing research) and with other departments
  • Aid in maintaining a collaborative partnership with The Ohio State University College of Nursing and Academic Practice Partnership
  • Work with nursing services to ensure the delivery of evidence-based practice across all levels of nursing personnel across the medical center
  • Assess and improve evidence-based resources and services across the enterprise

Minimum Qualifications

  • Masters Degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or Business Administration required. Doctoral degree preferred (PhD, DNP)
  • 8 years of relevant experience required. 12 or more years of relevant experience preferred
  • Licensed to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Ohio
  • Experience in leading evidence-based practice change initiatives on a microsystem & macrosystem level
  • Skilled in program planning, project management, and leading nursing and interdisciplinary teams; previous experience in an academic medical center and/or a health system preferred

Position Details

This position has a good mix of policy/program oversight while also working to expand evidence-based practice throughout the organization. Additionally, they have a significant connection to the College of Nursing through the OSU College of Nursing & Academic Practice Partnership and the OSUWMC/DNP/DNE Student Project Approval Committee. The ideal candidate would have the ability to be detail-oriented and oversee the nursing policy as well as form good relationships with the College of Nursing and partners across the organization to expand EBP.

Work Schedule

40 hour a week position, Monday-Friday.
