Nursing Instructor (part-time)

About the role

Blue Ridge Community College seeks a part-time Nursing Instructor to teach in its two-year Associate Degree Nursing program. The program prepares students to become beginning practitioners of nursing in various health services facilities and is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) and approved by the Virginia Board of Nursing (VABON). The college’s nursing program consistently surpasses NCLEX pass rate benchmarks set by the VABON.

Responsibilities

• Instruct students in client care across the lifespan in a variety of settings.
• Teach using a concept-based curriculum that allows for varied content delivery.
• Provide didactic, clinical, lab, or simulation instruction as program needs require.
• Create lesson plans and facilitate effective student learning.
• Engage and instruct a diverse student population with creativity, innovation, and compassion.
• Assist with teaching demonstrations as part of the interview process for selected candidates.

Requirements

• Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN) or a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree AND active enrollment in an MSN program.
• Current license or multistate licensure privilege to practice nursing in Virginia as a registered nurse (or eligibility to obtain immediate licensure), unrestricted and undisciplined.
• Minimum of two years of experience in direct patient care as a registered nurse.
• Dedication to the community college mission.
• Experience using a variety of computer software programs and ability to learn new ones, particularly related to online instruction.

Additional Considerations

• Previous teaching experience.
• Recent acute care experience in a hospital setting.
• Use of instructional technologies.
