About the Role
Faculty members are the University’s teaching staff. Faculty members report to their respective Dean; however, they may have a dotted line reporting responsibility to a specified Department/Program Director or General Education Chair. Faculty members are student-centered, teaching mentors who assist students to progress through their academic programs to completion. The role encompasses four categories of essential job functions: instruction and assessment of student learning, scholarship and professional development, and professionalism.
Hours for the position will be Monday-Friday 8 am-5 pm with the potential for evening and weekend hours for clinical teaching.
Responsibilities
Instruction and Assessment of Student Learning
- Facilitate student learning, deliver effective and career-relevant instruction, and provide an environment conducive to learning within face-to-face, online, and/or hybrid learning environments.
- Evaluate student learning for all assigned classes, respond to student inquiries, and grade all assignments in a timely manner.
- Engage students using instructional techniques such as collaborative learning, experiential learning, and/or problem-based learning.
- Deliver course curriculum developed under the direction of the respective Dean, Department/Program Director, General Education Chair, or Curriculum Specialist utilizing the University’s learning management system.
- Participate in course and program level learning assessments, including defining student learning outcomes, choosing and administering measures, evaluating student performance, and suggesting changes to improve student learning.
- Participate in the development and revision of course maps and review/participate in the selection and revision of course materials, including Open Educational Resources (OER) processes where appropriate.
- Schedule, supervise, debrief, and evaluate students in clinical, externship, observation, field experience, and similar settings as appropriate for the course or program.
- Participate in student retention efforts, including reaching out to students with excessive absences, documenting retention activities, and ensuring students are aware of University services.
- Communicate availability (e.g., office hours) to all students via email, phone, or other personal contact.
Scholarship and Professional Development
- Participate in the annual faculty performance review process.
- Engage in the University’s Professional Development Program.
- Remain current in academic or program discipline, including attending professional conferences and maintaining licensure, certification, or continuing education requirements where appropriate.
- Receive training to stay current in technological and pedagogical advances that promote student learning.
- Participate in scholarly activities (Graduate School faculty requirement only).
- Report all professional development activities in the professional development activity website.
Professionalism
- Adhere to all policies related to instruction, teaching, and employment as specified by the Faculty/Staff Manual.
- Accurately record and report student attendance in accordance with University Attendance policy.
- Submit grade books in the correct format and by the required due date as specified in the University’s Grade Book and FERPA policies.
- Complete all required and mandated compliance training as specified by the University’s Human Resources department.
- Submit an updated curricula vitae/resume annually to the respective Dean as part of the annual performance review process.
- Full-time faculty are expected to participate in graduation ceremonies; adjunct faculty are encouraged to attend.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- MSN required.
- A minimum of two years' experience as a registered nurse.
- Previous teaching experience preferred but not required.
- An equivalent combination of education and work experience may be considered.
- Excellent writing and oral communication skills.
- Knowledgeable and comfortable with active teaching methods and use of teaching technologies including AI.
- Excellent leadership, customer service, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously and efficiently while meeting required deadlines.
- Ability to function efficiently in a stressful work environment.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and travel to multiple locations as dictated by the course schedule.
- Must be able to sit and/or stand for long periods of time, as well as move about the campus.
- Must be able to hear and speak well enough to communicate with students, faculty, and staff face-to-face, via telephone, and through electronic medium (e.g., email, recordings, virtual meetings).
