Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Negotiate and arrange clinical sites that meet the educational requirements for nursing students.
  • Act as a liaison to interpret and match the needs of students and instructors to agencies with appropriate learning experiences.
  • Collaborate with clinical course instructors, program directors, associate/assistant deans, and dean to identify clinical placement needs for undergrad and grad students.
  • Identify, remit, and establish collaborative relationships with clinical/practicum sites.
  • Maintain currency with and establish new clinical site affiliation agreements in collaboration with the LCON Dean.
  • Schedule and submit timely requests to clinical agencies for student clinical site placements.
  • Provide clinical agencies with course-related information and expected clinical student learning outcomes/preceptor expectations.
  • Schedule and submit timely clinical requests for clinical role transition (CRT) student placements while working collaboratively with the CRT coordinator and obtaining preceptors' contact information.
  • Assign students and faculty to respective clinical groups and input schedules using the online system, eMedley.
  • Update and maintain the online scheduling and evaluation system, eMedley.
  • Input information into the system as needed.
  • Conduct clinical site visits every year and as needed.
  • Collaborate with clinical faculty and students for clinical site evaluation.
  • Notify lead clinical course instructor and adjunct faculty of the clinical site's faculty and student orientation dates, times, location, and other specific agency-related requirements.
  • Attend clinical site orientations, including clinical role transition (CRT) orientations, as needed.
  • Attend clinical site meetings related to clinical placements, etc.
  • Monitor, report, and submit appropriate forms to clinical agencies regarding students' background checks, CPR certification, drug screening, health, and immunization requirements for pre-licensure, RN-BSN, and graduate students.
  • Keep current regarding clinical agencies' student/placement requirements.
  • Create an environment in the labs that facilitates student learning.
  • Schedule lab time, skills, and health assessment teaching days using the current scheduling system with undergraduate/graduate faculty and the SIM director.
  • Prepare supplies and equipment and set up skills and health assessment labs for undergraduate faculty demonstrations, teaching, and competency testing.
  • Provide open lab hours for students to review and practice their nursing skills.
  • Oversight the organization and cleanliness of labs.
  • Orient and supervise student lab workers.
  • Maintain sufficient amounts of consumable supplies for health assessment and skills.
  • Collaborate with the SIM director regarding ordering student supply kits for designated courses each semester.
  • Perform an inventory of supplies and equipment in skills and health assessment labs each semester.
  • Provide for routine maintenance, upgrades, repair, and replacement of skills and health assessment lab equipment.
  • Ensure the safe storage, collection, and disposal of hazardous and waste materials according to regulations.
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with external vendors.
  • Program and operate instructional media equipment such as video cameras, multimedia computer systems, audio and video distribution systems used in a patient care simulation laboratory.
  • Research and recommend simulation products for purchase.
  • Provide simulation expertise in guiding faculty members' full utilization of simulation products.
  • Prepare simulation rooms, simulators, equipment, paperwork, and supplies for simulation sessions.
  • Aid faculty with the operation of the computer, simulator, multi-media, video, and sound equipment.
  • Ensure simulators are fully functioning.
  • Exercise problem-solving and trouble-shooting skills with hardware, software, multi-media, video, and sound equipment.
  • Routine maintenance and repair of all simulators, multi-media, video, and sound equipment.
  • Maintain, store, discard, and rotate simulation supplies and materials.
  • Organize simulation supplies and materials.
  • Provide student orientation to simulation labs as requested.
  • Participate in and promote a culture of continuing quality improvement.

Performs other duties and responsibilities related to those enumerated above which do not alter the responsibility of the position.
