Job Summary

Are you passionate about teaching and empowering future nurses? UW‑Madison School of Nursing is seeking committed and enthusiastic Clinical Faculty to join our team. As Clinical Faculty, you will share your knowledge and expertise with the next generation of nurses, ensuring they receive a comprehensive education and are well‑prepared for their professional careers. You will work closely with nursing students in the Doctor of Nursing Practice program and will be assigned to teach didactic and experiential (clinical) courses in acute care and may provide instruction in simulated care environments. Depending on expertise, qualifications, and program needs, you may also be assigned to teach in undergraduate or PhD programs. The School of Nursing encourages an innovative approach to teaching that supports student learning to care for diverse populations. The position is part‑time, 20 % to 50 % FTE, C‑basis (9‑month) and requires most work to be performed in‑person, onsite, or at a designated campus or clinical work location.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Teach in DNP programs and baccalaureate (accelerated, traditional, and AD‑to‑BSN completion) or PhD programs based on school/program needs.
  • Teach using accepted course descriptions, objectives, and content delivery approaches, assuring students meet expectations for required clinical hours when assigned to clinical courses.
  • Incorporate active learning, simulated experiential learning, and clinical experiential learning in hospitals or other health‑care settings as required by course assignments.
  • Collaborate with other faculty on curriculum and course planning at the graduate and undergraduate levels, using concept‑based and competency‑based teaching and learning assessment strategies.
  • Engage in academic community activities such as attending School meetings, participating in faculty development, and contributing to the School’s mission and vision.
  • Contribute to the School of Nursing mission through service activities (e.g., governance committees, outreach activities, or project task groups).
  • Pursue scholarly interests (e.g., evaluation studies to improve teaching and learning).
  • Collaborate with practice‑setting colleagues through academic‑practice partnerships to enhance student learning, practice improvement, or community outreach.
  • Work to support and enhance the climate of excellence.

Required Qualifications

  • One or more years of experience teaching at undergraduate or graduate levels in nursing, or professional staff development in acute care settings.
  • One or more years of professional experience and certification as a DNP‑Acute Care Advanced Practice Nurse.
  • Licensure in Wisconsin (or eligibility) as an Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse.
  • Doctor of Nursing Practice degree.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with clinical instruction, active learning, competency or concept‑based teaching, simulation, and inter‑professional education.

Required Licenses/Certifications

  • ACNP – Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, APNP or APRN – Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber, or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse.
  • RN – Registered Nurse – Wisconsin State Licensure or eligibility for licensure in Wisconsin.

Compensation

The minimum starting salary is $91,400. Salary will be negotiated based on experience and qualifications. Because the position is part‑time, actual salary earned will be prorated based on the appointed FTE (e.g., 20 % FTE receives 20 % of the advertised salary).

Benefits

Depending on FTE at time of hire, the position may offer a comprehensive benefits package, including generous sick leave and competitively priced health, dental, vision, and life insurance.

Schedule

This is a part‑time position (20 %–50 % FTE) on a C‑basis (9‑month academic year) with most work performed in‑person, onsite, or at a designated campus or clinical location.
