Nursing Assistant - Nursing Float Pool

About the Role

The Nursing Assistant attends to patient needs under the direct supervision of the unit charge person, delivering age-appropriate care in accordance with hospital policy, philosophy, values, standards, and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Meets expectations of applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
• Completes and reports vital signs.
• Answers telephone, records necessary information, and routes calls or messages to appropriate personnel.
• Maintains current patient records and notifies the nurse of significant changes in patient condition within 5 minutes of identification.
• Requisitions supplies and equipment.
• Returns all films by the end of the shift.
• Transports patients as indicated.
• Obtains x-rays and medical records as needed.
• Assists in the chemotherapy area as required.
• Ensures ample blank charts are available for new patients.
• Types correspondence, reports, and photocopies information as indicated.
• Ensures all charts are supplied with appropriate forms for documentation.
• Relays messages to the appropriate caregiver within 5-10 minutes of receiving them.
• Prioritizes orders in the order entry system accurately and timely.
• Posts all reports in a timely and accurate manner.
• Schedules patient appointments with physicians, other departments, and follow-ups.
• Uses computer system(s) appropriately.
• Assists others as necessary, using time constructively.
• Pre-admits all patients prior to their initial consultation day.
• Answers telephone professionally, screens calls, pulls charts, and relays messages to appropriate staff.
• Demonstrates ability to recognize and deal with priorities appropriately.
• Handles order entry for radiology and laboratory procedures.
• Collects co-pays and ensures monies are taken to the appropriate area.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Previous experience as a Nursing Assistant in a hospital setting preferred.
• BLS certification required.

All Associates must obtain required certifications for their respective positions within the designated time frame per CHRISTUS Health policy.
