Baylor Scott & White Medical Center - Sunnyvale is seeking a Patient Care Tech to assist patients with activities of daily living, provide basic nursing care to non-acutely ill patients, and help maintain a safe and clean environment under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse. Clients served are primarily adults eighteen years of age and older, with occasional adolescents, pediatrics, and infants.

Responsibilities

  • Provides basic nursing care to non-acutely ill patients within the Nursing Assistant’s scope of practice, including actions that meet psychosocial and physical needs.
  • Meets communication needs of patients and demonstrates performance reflecting initiative and responsibility.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, within the Nursing Assistant’s scope of practice.
  • Assists in admission, transfer, and discharge of patients.
  • Performs basic patient care considering needs specific to the standard of care for the patient’s age.
  • Notifies appropriate licensed personnel when a patient complains of pain.
  • Communicates observed changes in patient status and responses to the RN.
  • Maintains awareness of the needs of pediatric, geriatric, and general patient populations.
  • Assists with feeding patients and maintaining fluid balance with techniques appropriate for the patient’s age and physical condition.
  • Provides explanations to patients and families prior to administering care and answers questions within scope of practice.
  • Performs treatments and provides services within scope of practice.
  • Communicates appropriately and clearly to team leader, co-workers, and physicians.
  • Consults other departments as appropriate to provide an interdisciplinary approach to the patient’s needs.
  • Provides care appropriate to the condition and age of the patient, including pediatric, geriatric, and general populations.
  • Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/healthcare errors.
  • Assists physicians with procedures and performs services requiring technical and manual skills under the direction of an RN.
  • Demonstrates flexibility, organization, and the ability to function under stressful situations.
  • Responds to patients in emergency or physically distressful situations.
  • Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity.
  • Interacts professionally with patients/families and involves them in the formation of the plan of care.
  • Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.
  • Meets current documentation standards and policies and completes documentation within the shift.
  • Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly.
  • Coordinates and supervises patient care under the direct supervision of an RN.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of disease entities.
  • Ensures medical and surgical asepsis during treatments and special procedures.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Current AHA BLS certification.
  • Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
  • Additional languages preferred.
