This is a 25 bed unit with a Nurse Assistant/Patient Ratio of 1:12. Flexible self-scheduling and a collaborative approach to patient care are key features. The unit is accredited as a Chest Pain Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) Center and has received multiple awards for its performance.
The unit is part of the UNC Medical Center and is located in Chapel Hill, NC. It is part of the UNC Health system and offers an extensive benefit package including PTO hours.
Summary
A Nursing Assistant I is needed for Acute Care Cardiology and Nephrology Unit - 3 West. The position involves providing routine direct and indirect patient care in a hospital setting, under the direct supervision of a registered nurse or physician.
Responsibilities
- Aids patients in reality orientation and participates in behavior modification plans/therapy.
- Provides verbal de-escalation of potentially aggressive patients and aids in the physical management of aggressive/out-of-control patients.
- Makes sure emotional and safety needs of patients are met by monitoring the therapeutic milieu activities on assigned unit.
- Measures vital signs, height and weight, collects specimens, performs skin preps/scrubs, catheter care, capillary blood glucose checks, simple wound care, range of motion exercises, postural drainage, and supportive patient and family interactions.
- Assists with bathing, dressing, feeding, and assisting with ambulation for patients.
- Cleans the work area, changes linens, re-stocks supplies, cleans/sterilizes instruments, transports patients/ supplies/ specimens, assists in the orientation of new employees and students, and performs some routine clerical functions.
- Distributes patient education materials at the request of patients and/or health care providers.
Requirements
- No formal education required, but preference for six (6) months of nursing assistant experience.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Fluent in verbal and written English language and able to develop basic computer skills.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of and ability to follow through with the plan of care.
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare providers.
- Ability to perform tasks independently and as part of a team.
Other Information
This is a Full-Time Standard Hours Per Week position. The salary range is $17.60 - $24.29 per hour (Hiring Range).
