Nursing Assistant - Evenings/Nights - Advanced Acute Care Surgical Trauma Unit - No CNA Required

Geisinger offers a $1500 sign-on bonus for eligible candidates, a $16.25 minimum hiring rate with increased rates for experienced individuals, and up to $3 shift differentials for evening, nights, and weekend shifts. We also provide up to $40,000 in financial support to become a nurse.
Responsibilities
- Perform a wide range of clerical duties and direct patient care activities based on unit needs to enhance the care team’s ability to provide quality care.
- Provide patient care as directed, within the nursing assistant scope of practice, aligned with the multidisciplinary care plan for each patient.
- Identify, observe, and document the physical needs of patients according to established standards; report changes in patient condition to licensed personnel in a timely manner.
- Obtain and maintain the integrity of specimens in accordance with policy and physician orders.
- Assist patients with activities of daily living, including hygiene and changing linens, to support the continuum of care.
- Provide one-to-one patient safety watch as assigned, following established policies and procedures.
- Accurately process and transport specimens to the laboratory in a timely manner.
- Perform point-of-care testing and maintain instruments, including quality control.
- Assist in problem-solving, troubleshooting, and taking corrective measures for equipment and supplies.
- Serve as a preceptor and mentor for new staff and students in a positive manner.
- Perform clerical duties for admissions, transfers, discharges, and deaths; facilitate patient throughput activities, including transcribing and processing orders.
- Release and confirm ordered tests to appropriate departments; coordinate patient transportation for multiple tests.
- Participate in obtaining and communicating electronic information relevant to the nursing unit, such as scheduling tests and faxing consults.
- Assist in ordering supplies, including stationery, floor stock, and individual nursing supplies.
- Communicate with food services to ensure appropriate patient diets.
- Operate, troubleshoot, and schedule maintenance for clerical equipment, including computers, fax machines, and phones.
- Transport non-controlled medications and blood products as needed to meet unit or clinic requirements.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED) (Required).
- Minimum of 1 year of related work experience (Preferred).
- Basic Life Support Certification.
- Ability to meet orientation and long-term full-time scheduling requirements.

Pay

Schedule
- Full Time, Evenings/Nights (36 hours/weekly).
- 3 - 12-hour shifts: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM.
- Every other weekend and holiday rotation required.
