Job Requirements Join a Growing Newborn Care Team The University of Maryland Capital Region Health is seeking a PRN Nursery Nurse Practitioner to join our collaborative newborn care team in Largo, Maryland. This is an exciting opportunity to care for healthy newborns while working alongside experienced neonatologists, pediatricians, and multidisciplinary care teams within a growing obstetrics program. Our Nursery APPs play a vital role in delivering high-quality, family-centered care from birth through discharge while supporting one of the region's expanding maternity services. Position Highlights PRN position with flexible schedulingMinimum commitment of two (2) shifts per quarterComprehensive orientation and training covering all aspects of newborn nursery careInpatient nursery coverage with home call responsibilitiesCollaborative, physician-led practice environmentOpportunity to practice at the top of your license while providing compassionate, evidence-based newborn care Responsibilities Working collaboratively with the physician team, the Nursery Nurse Practitioner will: Perform comprehensive newborn assessments, daily rounding, and ongoing patient management.Evaluate, diagnose, and treat newborn patients while ordering and interpreting diagnostic studies.Develop treatment plans in collaboration with attending physicians.Educate and counsel parents on newborn care, feeding, safety, and discharge planning.Perform procedures within approved privileges, including newborn circumcisions when credentialed.Communicate effectively with physicians, nurses, patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams.Maintain accurate clinical documentation while supporting quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.Participate in APP education, mentorship, committee involvement, and ongoing professional development. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) and graduation from an accredited Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP) or Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) program.Active Maryland Nurse Practitioner license (or eligibility), national certification, and current BLS certification required; NRP certification preferred.Eligible for credentialing through the UM Capital Region Health Medical Staff Office.One year of nursery, neonatal, newborn, or pediatric experience is preferred.Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, communication, and organizational skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment while delivering compassionate, family-centered care.Salary is commensurate with clinical experience.
