Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervises nurses in managing patient care under the direction of the Director of Inpatient Nursing/Throughput.
- Collaborates with nursing and other departments’ personnel to coordinate activities as needed.
- Analyzes staffing needs, assigns personnel, and manages overtime as necessary.
- Resolves conflicts or refers them to the Administrative Officer on Duty as appropriate.
- Provides guidance to in-house nursing personnel on issues related to nursing practice, standards, policy, and procedure.
- Communicates with the medical staff about patient care issues that require discussion and resolution.
- Shares pertinent clinical and management information with the oncoming supervisor and documents actions taken.
- Maintains effective communication between departments.
- Involves in developing goals and objectives for the Nursing Department and ensures adherence to established nursing practices, standards, policies, and procedures.
- Researches, develops, and recommends projects to the Director of Inpatient Nursing/Throughput, communicating short-term solutions and long-range problems to the appropriate department manager.
- Assists with the distribution of medications from the night pharmacy, arranging for emergency surgery, and other functions when departments are absent.
- Supports the educational development of all nursing staff and attends department, committee, and other hospital meetings as necessary.
- Attends and participates in external conferences, seminars, and maintains awareness of new trends, theories, methods, and techniques.
- Maintains competencies required for the specific patient population served.
- Complies with safety and other laws, rules, and regulations set forth by regulatory and government agencies, and follows department and hospital policies and procedures.
- May perform similar or related duties as necessary on an emergency basis or as designated by the department manager or supervisor.
Qualifications
- Current licensure by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing.
- AHA Basic Life Support certification required.
- AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification required.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
- Acute care experience required.
Pay
$38.19 – $95.63 per hour
Schedule
3 - 11 PM, 11-7 PM
16 hours per month
Weekend availability needed
