Responsibilities
- Provide quality care for patients and ensure a safe environment.
- Supervise and evaluate nursing care staff, including LPNs, Medical Assistants, Medical Technicians, and Patient Aides.
- Prepare assignments for nursing personnel, considering staffing needs across the organization.
- Delegate duties to appropriate staff.
- Deliver expert clinical nursing care as part of the healthcare team.
- Identify the need for crisis intervention for staff, patients, and families through assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation, including managing all codes, incidents, and special circumstances.
- Perform duties of a licensed nurse as needed.
- Assist in evaluating nursing goals and treatment philosophy.
- Develop nursing practices and standards of care.
- Demonstrate interpersonal skills to enhance communication with internal and external customers.
- Complete documentation and performance improvement duties.
- Finish annually required training within established time frames.
- Adhere to zero tolerance for patient abuse and maintain ethical standards for patient treatment.
- Participate in the orientation and success of new employees through direct supervision, 90-day evaluations, and goal setting.
- Follow established regulatory personnel and department standards, including guidelines for professional development and skill maintenance.
Requirements
- Current unencumbered LPN license required; RN license preferred.
- Maintain BLS certification.
- Advanced knowledge of psychiatric, med-surg, and/or primary care nursing.
- Demonstrated competence in a range of nursing skills and advanced clinical skills.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong leadership qualities and supervisory skills.
Qualifications
- Seven plus years’ experience as an LPN with at least three years in psychiatric nursing, or
- ADN with five years’ experience, including at least one year in psychiatric nursing, or
- BSN with three years’ experience, including at least one year in psychiatric nursing.
Physical Demands
- Position requires lifting a maximum of 50 pounds, with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Working conditions involve continuous or near-continuous exposure to extreme temperature, noise, air pollution, or chemical gases/substances.
- Normal work tasks may involve frequent and ongoing exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissue.
