About the role

The Nurse Supervisor will help lead a growing team of 21 Outpatient Nurse Coordinators who support General Cardiologists, Cardiology Nurse Practitioners, and a wide range of cardiology subspecialties, including Adult Congenital Heart Disease, Cardio-Oncology, Hypertrophic Obstructive Cardiomyopathy (HOCM), Interventional Cardiology, and Marfan Syndrome. Reporting in partnership with the Nurse Manager, this leadership role combines both management and clinical responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises nursing staff, including hiring/firing responsibilities, performance appraisals for subordinates, initiating disciplinary action.
  • Covers patient services with physicians and staff to provide quality care in an effective manner, conducting rounds to ensure quality of patient care delivery.
  • Facilitates educational opportunities and quality improvement activities for staff to ensure compliance with medical school and regulatory guidelines.
  • Sets up and coordinates activities and duties of staff, orienting new staff and advising administration of conditions and performance issues.
  • Provides direct patient care as needed, including development of patient care plans, administering medication, vitals, phlebotomy, monitoring IV therapies and maintaining records in accordance with approved nursing techniques.
  • Promotes/maintains good public relations with patients and families, acting as liaison between other departments.
  • Provides appropriate counsel to patients/families explaining medications, procedures and teaches care to ensure continuity of care and promote health care maintenance.
  • Maintains supplies/equipment ordering/repairing as required.

Requirements

Graduate of an accredited nursing program, plus a minimum of 2 years of related nursing experience.

Current LPN or RN licensure in the state of Missouri and/or Illinois, depending on location, in accordance with the Compact Act.

Basic Life Support certification (Online BLS certifications, those without a skills assessment component, are not sufficient to meet the BLS requirements).
