About the Role
The Emergency Department Nurse Manager is responsible for the clinical, operational, and administrative leadership of the Emergency Department. The Nurse Manager ensures the delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centered care through effective leadership, staffing, regulatory compliance, performance management, staff development, and interdisciplinary collaboration. The Nurse Manager provides visible, accessible leadership and maintains accountability for department operations, nursing practice, workforce performance, and a culture of safety, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
- Provide clinical, operational, and administrative leadership for the Emergency Department.
- Ensure delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centered care.
- Oversee staffing, regulatory compliance, and performance management.
- Foster staff development and interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Maintain accountability for department operations, nursing practice, and workforce performance.
- Promote a culture of safety, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
Requirements
- Current California RN license.
- NALS within 6 months of hire.
- Progressive professional nursing experience with demonstrated clinical and leadership competency.
- Knowledge of emergency nursing practice, patient safety, quality improvement, staffing, performance management, and healthcare regulatory requirements.
- Working knowledge of The Joint Commission (TJC) standards and California Title 22 requirements applicable to Emergency Department operations.
Qualifications
- Master's degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or related field.
- Five or more years of progressive emergency nursing experience.
- Two or more years of formal nursing leadership experience.
- National certification in emergency nursing or nursing leadership, such as CEN, NEA-BC, or equivalent.
- Experience with Magnet, Lantern Award, professional governance, nursing research, or evidence-based practice.
- Experience leading interdisciplinary quality and operational improvement initiatives.
Licenses and Certifications
- Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Basic Life Support (BLS).
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
Education
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
