About the Role

Moffitt Cancer Center is the only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center based in Florida. As a Nurse Resident, you will initiate a professional nursing practice career in a supportive environment committed to mentoring, coaching, and learning. This role is designed to build confidence through a structured, professional transition-to-practice experience customized to individual developmental needs. You will create and enhance professional networks, hone clinical and leadership skills, and participate in a 12-month residency program that includes unit-specific orientation (12 or 16 weeks), scheduled eight-hour paid education days, and informal one-on-one progress meetings.

The Nurse Resident position is available for the 5 South unit at Moffitt Cancer Center Magnolia, a 22-bed unit providing general medical care for oncology patients who may require chemotherapy and/or telemetry monitoring. The unit offers telemetry classes and Chemotherapy Certification Classes.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver individualized quality nursing care to cancer patients and families in accordance with established hospital guidelines, the nursing professional practice model, and ANA code of ethics.
  • Embody Moffitt Nursing’s vision, mission, and philosophy, committing to personalized patient and family-centered care using Duffy’s quality caring model/caring factors (e.g., collaboration, dignity, attentive reassurance, healing environment, and information sharing).
  • Use the nursing process to plan and manage quality patient care, addressing biophysical, psychosocial, environmental, self-care, educational, and discharge planning needs with age-appropriate consideration.
  • Participate in a structured 12-month residency program, including unit-specific orientation (12 or 16 weeks), scheduled eight-hour paid education days, and informal one-on-one progress meetings.
  • Develop leadership skills to positively impact the clinical practice environment and patient outcomes.
  • Build professional networks and relationships with peers while refining clinical and leadership skills.
  • Engage in self-evaluation and program evaluation to monitor individual and overall program progress.
  • Sign a Commitment Agreement to work a minimum of two years at Moffitt Cancer Center post-residency; failure to complete the program or fulfill the commitment may require repayment of program costs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) required.
  • Current RN licensure in Florida or a valid Multi-State privilege to practice in Florida (must declare Florida as primary state of residence within 60 days if licensed in another eNLC compact state).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

The ideal candidate is a BSN graduate interested in beginning or transitioning to oncology ambulatory care, committed to Moffitt’s nursing philosophy and Duffy’s quality caring model.

Pay

Salary range: $36.63 - $54.93 per hour. Actual compensation may vary based on experience, skills, education, location, and internal equity.
