Nurse Residency - ED
About the Role
The HCA Healthcare Residency Program at Corpus Christi Medical Center is a year-long, paid program designed to transition new graduate nurses from the classroom to professional practice. The program provides hands-on experience, advanced clinical training in a specialty area, and a supportive community of nurse educators, experienced nurses, and fellow residents.
- Monthly educational sessions
- Preceptorship training with a facility preceptor
- Measurement and evaluation of skills through hands-on simulations
- Mentoring from experienced nurse leaders
- Collaborative work on an evidence-based practice project
The RN Resident coordinates and delivers high-quality, patient-centered care using established nursing models such as "Assess, Perform, Teach, and Manage." The role serves as an advocate for patients, families, and caregivers to ensure an exceptional patient experience.
Responsibilities
- Assess patient condition during admission and each scheduled shift, reporting any changes in status
- Perform procedures, monitoring, and other functions as ordered by medical providers
- Document the administration of care in the patient medical record in a timely and thorough manner
- Administer prescribed medications and monitor patient for therapeutic response
- Notify provider and intervene as needed in the event of an unintended medication response
- Respond promptly to patient requests and proactively anticipate patient needs
- Educate patients, families, and caregivers about medical conditions, treatment plans, medications, side effects, and follow-up measures
- Translate complex medical terminology to ensure complete understanding
Requirements
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) certification obtained within 30 days of employment
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification obtained within 1 year of employment
- Other certifications may be required during employment
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program
- Registered Nurse License or Graduate Nurse status in the State of Texas
- No previous experience required
- Some travel may be needed for training
