Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant, Psych

About the Role

Provides evaluation and follow-up patient care and conducts selected health services for psychiatric patients under the direction of the Executive Director. Responds to psychiatric emergencies utilizing training in management of aggressive behaviors, demonstrating skills in preventing situations from escalating by recognizing potential at-risk situations and de-escalating patients.

Acts as a patient advocate, informing patients and families of available community and government resources, and serves as a psychiatric clinical resource and liaison between other programs and providers.

Responsibilities

• Provides psychoeducational and medication instruction(s) to patients and families, documenting appropriately.
• Establishes and maintains good rapport and working relationships with colleagues to foster communication necessary for quality patient care.
• Participates in quality improvement initiatives, utilization management activities, clinical and administrative staff meetings, and assigned committees.
• Participates in training and development activities for professional growth and skill enhancement.
• Assesses and manages behavioral health patients, providing a leadership role in behavioral health-related emergencies in the emergency center and inpatient hospital setting.
• Provides psychiatric consultative services to inpatients in conjunction with the Psychiatry Department.
• Develops and manages a narcotic addiction program to identify and treat patients with chronic opiate habituation.
• Follows clinical and administrative policies and procedures while maintaining patient rights and confidentiality.
• Performs advanced diagnostic assessments to identify complex psychiatric and behavioral health conditions, informing individualized treatment plans.
• Summarizes and communicates pertinent clinical findings in verbal and written formats to support interdisciplinary care and accurate medical record documentation.
• Provides comprehensive case management services, including care coordination, discharge planning, and connection to community resources.
• Responds to psychiatric crises using evidence-based crisis intervention techniques to ensure patient and staff safety.
• Applies thorough knowledge of psychopharmacology to support medication management, including understanding indications, side effects, and potential interactions.
• Conducts assessments for substance use disorders and implements appropriate treatment interventions based on current best practices in addiction medicine.
• Performs other duties as assigned, including all responsibilities required by the position, department, and hospital as described in the scope of service.
• Consistently provides service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers, and co-workers.
• Identifies process improvement opportunities and presents recommendations and solutions to management.
• Engages in the organization’s culture of continuous improvement by actively participating, supporting, and promoting CCHC Pillars of Excellence.

Qualifications

Nurse Practitioner, Psych – Grade PSY

• Master of Science in Nursing or higher (CNP).
• Currently licensed as a Certified Nurse Practitioner in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
• Minimum of one year of experience in de-escalation.
• Completion of an approved De-escalation Certification Course (obtain within 30 days, offered within).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (obtain within 30 days, offered within).
• US Department of Justice DEA Registration (required if prescribing).

Physician Assistant, Psych – Grade PSY

• Masters from a program accredited by the ARC-PA.
• Currently licensed as a Physician’s Assistant in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
• Minimum of one year of experience in de-escalation.
• Completion of an approved De-escalation Certification Course (obtain within 30 days, offered within).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (obtain within 30 days, offered within).
• US Department of Justice DEA Registration (required if prescribing).

Schedule

• 16 hours per week.
• Rotating days, Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM.
• No weekends or holidays.

Pay

Hiring pay range: $153,565 – $169,076 (annual, based on full-time employment).
