About the role

One full-time staff position for Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant is available in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Nephrology at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. This position will provide outpatient care for return Nephrology patients through morning sessions at UCMC and WC office sites, and support outpatient dialysis efforts across the tri-state area (IN, OH, KY). The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will deliver comprehensive, continuous, and personalized patient care, including diagnosis, treatments, and consultations for all aspects of kidney disorders, either independently or as part of a treatment team.

Responsibilities

  • Round on patients on hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, or kidney transplant recipients across the tri-state area.
  • Independently manage a panel of nephrology patients, including clinical evaluations, ordering and interpreting diagnostic studies, and developing treatment plans in collaboration with supervising nephrologists as needed.
  • Maintain accurate medical records.
  • Collaborate with other providers and members of the healthcare team in delivery of care and make appropriate referrals when needed.
  • Educate patients and families about medical conditions and treatment plans.
  • Facilitate staff, patient, and family decision-making using evidence-based practice.
  • Participate in the education of nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and medical students.
  • Manage outpatient e-consult volumes as needed.
  • Participate in the holiday coverage schedule, coordinated equitably across the team.
  • Perform related duties based on departmental need.

Requirements

Nurse Practitioner

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program.
  • Active Ohio APRN license with prescriptive authority.
  • Active Board Certification in appropriate nursing specialty.
  • Three (3) years of nursing experience.

Physician Assistant

  • Master’s Degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • Active Ohio Physician Assistant license with prescriptive authority.
  • Certification as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
