Nurse Practitioner Per Diem - Pediatric ICU
Job Description and Position Requirements

Summary of the Job: The nurse practitioner covers all areas within the Pediatric Department. The nurse practitioner manages pediatric and newborn patients with consultation, collaboration, and general supervision and under a collaborative practice agreement with the Pediatric Hospitalist and/or Intensivist, Pediatrician and the Emergency Room Physician utilizing extensive knowledge of pathophysiology, physiology and pharmacology. The Nurse Practitioner exercises independent judgment in the assessment, diagnosis and initiation of certain delegated medical processes, procedures and protocols depending on level of expertise. Nurse Practitioners work within the framework of the State Nurse Practice Act and follow hospital policies and procedures. The nurse practitioner also complies with hospital and nursing standards in the performance of job duties and responsibilities. The nurse practitioner will support the goals and objectives of the department and of the hospital.
Minimum Qualifications
- Successfully completed Board Certified Nursing Program.
- Master’s Degree in Nursing or equivalent experience required.
- 1 year experience in pediatrics required; 2 years’ experience preferred.
- CURRENT LA APRN license.
- Current PALS and BLS certifications upon hire.
- PALS Instructor Certification and NRP obtained within 12 months of hire.
- Certifications may be through any International Liaison Committee on resuscitation (ILCOR) provided courses such as but not limited to: Ochsner Health System, American Heart Association and American Red Cross. The ILCOR course must include a manikin check off.
- Able to proficiently perform initial and subsequent assessments on pediatric patients.
- Able to effectively lead pediatric resuscitation teams.
- Able to perform: Lumbar puncture IV therapy Superficial Abscess Drainage
Preferred Qualifications
- Acute care pediatric experience preferred.
Physical Demands
- Must possess good physical health.
- Some requirements include but are not limited to standing, sitting or walking for long periods of time.
- Lifting at least 50 pounds is required.
- Must be able to work with a moderate level of noise.
- Physical Effort required: Constant (67%-100%) - seeing Frequently (34%-66%) - lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, reaching, handling/feeling, talking, hearing Occasionally (1%-33%) - climbing (stairs, ladders, etc.), stooping, crouching
