Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant - Float

About the role

This position is for a Float Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant who will provide patient care services across Primary Health Care, Inc. (PHC) clinics in the Des Moines metro area, Ames, and Marshalltown. You will occasionally work at various Outreach Project sites, including patient homes, school-based clinics, mobile units, shelters, street sites, and other designated locations. This role involves collaborating with a Patient Care Team to deliver comprehensive professional care for patients of all cultures and backgrounds, engaging patients in holistic care while utilizing established workflows to ensure satisfaction and organizational success.

Responsibilities

• Provide medical care in accordance with PHC’s established standards, regulations, and policies.
• Obtain medical histories and perform examinations to diagnose and treat patients in person or via telemedicine.
• Order and interpret diagnostic tests, including radiology and laboratory studies.
• Write medical orders and prescriptions.
• Perform approved medical procedures.
• Provide patient and family education and counseling.
• Code patient encounters accurately and maintain electronic medical records, including history, physical exams, progress notes, and discharge summaries.
• Ensure complete and timely documentation of medical records, correspondence, referrals, prior authorizations, and patient/provider communications.
• Actively participate in process improvement and quality measures aligned with organizational priorities.
• Collaborate with Patient Care Team members to ensure effective and efficient team functioning.
• Comply with all regulatory requirements, including risk management, medical records, peer review, and federal, state, and local regulations.
• Lead, mentor, train, and educate employees, students, and residents.
• Participate in research as desired.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an approved Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.
• Experience with and commitment to patient-centered care.
• Strong organizational, prioritization, and time management skills with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
• Detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and willingness to learn database applications.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

License/Certifications

• Licensed Nurse Practitioner in the state of Iowa.
• Board Certified as appropriate for license/specialty.
• Current registration with the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and Iowa Board of Pharmacy Examiners (CSA).
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers Certification (recognized by the American Heart Association). *Must be obtained during introductory period if not current.
• Current Mandatory Reporter Training: Child and Dependent Adult Abuse (recognized by the Iowa Department of Public Health). *Must be obtained during introductory period if not current.
• Valid driver’s license and insurance.

Preferred Qualifications

• Community Health Center experience.
• Prior clinical experience as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
• Bilingual proficiency (verbal and written) in English and Spanish.

Pay

Your experience and skills determine your base pay. The hiring range for this position is typically $92,400 - $115,500 annually. Candidates with extensive work experience related to this position may be considered for additional compensation up to the pay grade maximum of $138,600 annually.
