Job Summary

The APN will conduct comprehensive health assessments aimed at health promotion and disease prevention as well as diagnose and manage common acute illnesses, with referral as appropriate and manage stable conditions. The APN may perform minor procedures for which he/she has been trained if within his/her licensure and the scope of the supervising or collaborative physician.

In the provision of these services, APNs may order, conduct, and interpret appropriate diagnostic and laboratory tests and prescribe pharmacologic agents, treatments and non-pharmacologic therapies. Educating and counseling individuals and their families regarding healthy lifestyle behaviors are key components of APN care. These services will be provided under a Standard of Care Agreement with a supervising or collaborating physician as appropriate.

In the hospital, the APN can obtain comprehensive patient histories and perform physical examinations, order and perform routine diagnostic procedures, as indicated; identify normal and abnormal findings on histories, physical examinations and commonly performed diagnostic studies; assess patients and develop and implement treatment plans for patients; monitor the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions in conjunction with a Supervising Physician only as consistent with THS' Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations and any applicable THS policies.

Education

  • Completion of an APN approved Master's Degree in a nurse practitioner program accredited by the Commission on the Collegiate of Nursing Education or the National League of Nursing Accrediting Commission.
  • BLS Provider or obtain within 3 months of hire.
  • ACLS Provider or obtain with one year from date of hire.

Training And Experience

  • Training as specified in the THS Medical Staff Bylaws and Credentials Procedure manual.
  • Continuing medical education to, at a minimum, maintain a current Ohio Certificate of Authority.
  • Knowledge of documentation rules and protocols.
  • Competency with use of THS and office-based computer systems.
  • Understanding of insurance rules and requirements.
