About the role
The position involves providing appropriate medical care to patients, assessing their physical, psychological, and social needs, and developing a care plan. This includes diagnosing and treating patients according to medical staff-approved protocols and collaborating with physicians.
Responsibilities
- Assessing, diagnosing, and treating patients according to medical staff approved protocol and acceptable standards of practice.
- Providing medical services and health education to patients and family members.
- Contributing to the health education of individuals and groups, applying appropriate methods to increase each person's motivation to take responsibility for their own health care.
- Consulting and collaborating with physicians to assess, diagnose, and treat patients.
- Performing necessary diagnostic and therapeutic procedures according to written, approved protocols and appropriate licensing and administrative authorities.
- Interpreting information gathered during the diagnostic process and consulting with the physician as appropriate regarding abnormal health assessment findings to establish an appropriate plan of care.
- Making appropriate referrals for patients.
- Providing quality care for patients, demonstrating appropriate health, safety, and aseptic practices.
- Recognizing and reacting appropriately to environmental safety factors related to patient care.
- Effectively providing patient instruction related to the environment of care and safety standards.
- Contributing to the development and attainment of physician practice goals.
- Practicing according to written, approved protocols and appropriate licensing and administrative authorities.
- Understanding, applying, and supporting practice policies, procedures, goals, and standards.
- Maintaining patient records and accurate information.
Requirements
The individual must be able to work the hours specified and have visual acuity adequate to perform position duties, the ability to communicate effectively, hear, understand, and distinguish speech and other sounds. They must also have a certified neonatal nurse practitioner (NNP) license from the National Certification Corporation (NCC), a registered nurse (RN) license from the Board of Nursing, and a certified nurse practitioner (CNP) license from the Board of Nursing. Two to three years of Level III NICU experience is preferred.
