About the role

The Nurse Practitioner will provide high-quality medical care to patients in a correctional healthcare setting, including assessments, diagnoses, treatment plans, and patient education. This role will collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure comprehensive care delivery and will prescribe medications, perform procedures, and manage chronic conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality, evidence-based medical care to inmates in accordance with established policies, procedures, and clinical guidelines.
  • Perform assessments, diagnose, and treat patients, including prescribing medication and ordering appropriate tests.
  • Demonstrate leadership in ensuring excellence in patient care, promoting positive health outcomes and improving patient satisfaction.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient medical information/history, upholding HIPAA regulations and medical ethics.
  • Participate in developing and implementing individualized treatment plans and ensure they are followed in a timely manner.
  • Provide on-call services as needed, including after-hours care, as directed by the facility or company requirements.
  • Provide leadership to nursing and healthcare staff, promoting teamwork and cooperation among medical and correctional teams.
  • Support staff development through guidance, mentorship, and ongoing education to promote a high standard of care.
  • Promote good working relationships within the medical team and across other disciplines and departments to enhance patient care and operational efficiency.
  • Approach changes positively, motivating the team to embrace improvements and accept constructive feedback to enhance the work environment.
  • Ensure adherence to quality assurance standards by consistently performing thorough and accurate clinical tasks.
  • Participate in medical activities that foster growth and development for both medical professionals and patient care.
  • Maintain professional standards and accountability for own conduct and appearance at all times.
  • Respect and adhere to the facility's safety, infection control, and operational policies, ensuring a safe and effective healthcare environment.
  • Accept staffing assignments and perform additional duties as required, demonstrating flexibility in a dynamic environment.
  • Collaborate with medical and correctional staff to ensure smooth operations, resolve issues, and enhance patient care delivery.

Requirements

  • A current, valid, and unrestricted state license.
  • Completion of an accredited graduate or professional program (e.g., medical school, nurse practitioner program, etc.).
  • A current, valid DEA registration, if applicable.
  • Board certification in a relevant specialty is preferred, if applicable.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of clinical practice, with at least 1-2 years in a correctional healthcare or underserved population setting preferred.
  • Experience in diagnosis, treatment planning, and providing healthcare services in a managed care or correctional facility setting is highly preferred.
  • Active CPR/BLS certificate required (American Heart Association/American Red Cross guideline approved).

Qualifications

  • Current, valid, and unrestricted state license.
