About the role

The Nurse Practitioner will provide primary care to inpatients enrolled in the Hospitalist Internal Medicine Service within the framework of acute and primary health care, under the supervision of a physician. The Nurse Practitioner acts as the agent of the supervising physician in ordering diagnostic, therapeutic, and other medical services. Patient care will be reviewed with a physician in a timely manner.

Responsibilities

• Perform and record patient history and physical examinations in accordance with hospital policy and compliance standards.
• Establish differential diagnoses and communicate findings with the physician.
• Order appropriate lab and diagnostic procedures.
• Synthesize data to determine primary diagnosis and therapeutic plan utilizing established medical principles.
• Recognize and critically assess changes in patient conditions, reporting to the hospitalist physician.
• Facilitate coordination and development of a comprehensive, individualized plan of care in collaboration with the patient, family, and multidisciplinary team.
• Communicate one-on-one with primary care physicians regarding current and ongoing patient care needs.
• Act as a liaison between the hospitalist service, staff members, case managers, and attending physicians regarding patient care.

Requirements

• Advanced knowledge and clinical skills acquired through completion of a formal Nurse Practitioner education program.
• Three to five years of experience in acute care hospital medicine preferred.
• ACLS certification required.
• Licensed by the South Carolina State Board of Medical Examiners.
• Current South Carolina Nurse Practitioner’s license with authorization for prescriptive authority.
