About the Role

The Nurse Practitioner will provide primary care to inpatients enrolled in the Hospitalist Internal Medicine Service, working under the supervision of a physician. The role involves delivering acute and primary healthcare services, with the Nurse Practitioner acting as the agent of the supervising physician for practice-related activities, including ordering diagnostic, therapeutic, and other medical services. Patient care will be reviewed with a physician in a timely manner.

Responsibilities

• Perform and record patient history and physical examinations in accordance with hospital policy and regulatory standards.
• Establish differential diagnoses and communicate findings with the physician.
• Order appropriate lab and diagnostic procedures.
• Synthesize data to determine primary diagnosis and therapeutic plan using established medical principles.
• Recognize and critically assess changes in a patient’s condition and report them to the hospitalist physician.
• Facilitate coordination and development of a comprehensive, individualized plan of care in collaboration with the patient, family, and multidisciplinary team.
• Communicate one-on-one with primary care physicians regarding current and ongoing patient care needs.
• Act as a liaison between the hospitalist service, staff members, case managers, and attending physicians.

Requirements

• Advanced knowledge and clinical skills acquired through completion of a formal Nurse Practitioner education program.
• Three to five years of experience in acute care hospital medicine preferred.
• ACLS certification required.
• Licensed by the South Carolina State Board of Medical Examiners.
• Current South Carolina Nurse Practitioner’s license with prescriptive authority.
