Job Responsibilities
- Performs and documents medical evaluations on inmate patients of the assigned correctional facility consistent with the National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC) standards of care, NJ 10-A, American Correctional Association (ACA) and Performance Based National Detention Standards (PBNDS) as appropriate.
- Affords assessments of patients' mental and physical status based on the presenting symptoms and complaints.
- Constructs treatment plans for inmate patients incorporating ways to address the patients' problems and enhance patients' strengths, involve patients in their development, and include relapse prevention risk management strategies.
- Writes prescriptions for medications as allowed by state regulations and under the guidelines of the approved CFG formulary.
- Maintains effective working relationships with health care professionals and others.
Qualifications
- Education & Licensure: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, Current, unrestricted RN license in the state of practice (maintain copy on file), Certified Nurse Practitioner in the state of practice, Current DEA, CDS, and DEA-X licenses.
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of direct patient care as a Nurse Practitioner preferred.
- Skills & Competencies: Strong critical thinking, clinical assessment, and decision-making skills, Assertive, empathetic, and objective in-patient care, Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills, Basic computer proficiency and accurate electronic documentation skills, Ability to command respect and confidence of inmates and staff, Active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
